Skin is deeply cleansed through the softening and removal of blackheads and whiteheads through manual extraction, exfoliated with a gentle scrub or light chemical peel, and nourished with nutrient-rich masks to restore your skin’s natural barrier function.
If you want to focus on pore cleansing and heavy extractions, it’s best to schedule your facial for the end of the day when you don’t have to go anywhere after.
If it is in preparation for a big event, schedule the appointment for 3 to 5 days’ before. For those who are getting pre-wedding facials, we strongly suggest treatment is done at least 3 to 6 months before (to start treatment and also in case of any irritation) and again one week prior to the big day.
On the day of your facial, remember to bring an umbrella or a broad-brimmed hat with you. Your post-facial skin, especially after extraction or other chemical peels needs to be protected from the sun.
To get the best experience possible, we advise customers to think about what goals they want to achieve i.e. what bothers them about their skin, what skin concerns they would like us to help treat.
Our Facialists will dedicate time to do a thorough consultation and make the recommendations as to what facial offerings and skin care products best suit the needs of your skin.
You should also share more about your lifestyle, level of stress, how your skin behaves, what skin care products you use at home, ingredients and techniques that don’t work for you and if you have any food allergies. Be sure to let your Facialist know of any medication you might be taking that might affect the sensitivity of your skin.
A facial isn’t a makeover. It is more of an external detox session for the skin or akin to going to the gym. It may not necessarily make you more beautiful just after one visit unless it is a treatment that purely provides immediate radiance.
The benefits are experienced a few days later when you skin clears up and can function better without the layer of dead skin cells and a host of other impurities which clog the pores. Your skin will start to look clearer and more luminous after deep cleansing and applying the right products for your skin type.
Directly after your facial, there may be a little redness especially after the extraction procedure. The mild redness goes away within hours. There is no downtime or recovery time. Post-facial breakouts are a common phenomenon. You can minimize redness, blemishes and discomfort by following our post-facial skincare advice below. Bear in mind that reactions do vary depending on skin sensitivity and intensity of your facial.
We advise clients not to put on makeup inclusive of concealers, bb creams, liquid foundation and loose powders as these may congest your freshly- cleansed pores right after the facial. Let your skin experience the maximum effects of the facial treatment. Avoid using non-sterile makeup applicators on your face.
Clients can apply aloe vera to soothe and repair post-extraction skin. Choose gentle, non-comedogenic cream or foam cleansing agents. Use your fingertips instead of sponges or washcloths that might be too harsh for sensitive post-facial skin and that might have bacteria trapped within. Remember to wash with lukewarm water. If you use astringent toners, skip that for the first few washes as they could sting. Don’t overscrub or use harsh cleansers for at least 48 hours after your facial after your skin has undergone exfoliation and extraction. Your facialist has already done that during the facial.
Post-facial skin can be more photosensitive especially if you have had chemical exfoliations. If you are going into the sun, be sure to use a sunscreen for at least a week following a facial. Do not go to the steam room if you already had a steam extraction which is sufficient to open pores and stimulate circulation. Too much of that can lead to broken capillaries and increased skin sensitivity. Try not to touch your skin too often following a facial that includes extraction. And lastly, remember to treat your skin tenderly!
If you facial is done right, your post-extraction pores will remain clear for a few weeks. Applying makeup the next day will not clog up your pores immediately and render your facial ineffective. You will need to maintain your post-facial skin by avoiding thick or super rich moisturizers that can cause extra buildup of sebum. It is essential to exfoliate once or twice a week and use a clarifying serum, preferably one with salicylic acid, to maintain clarity.
There are many misconceptions about facial extraction. The truth is, extractions are a very essential part of a facial as it unclogs the pore entirely. Although there are more advanced machines that offer such extraction, the traditional procedure performed with a metal loop extractor and a medical syringe needle remains the most effective.
However, it is important that the procedure is carried out by a skilled Facialist with experience as extraction does leave your skin sensitive and more vulnerable after the facial. Thorough extraction removes black and whiteheads, comedones, milia seeds, acne, pimples and impurities that clog up the pores. This allows for maximum penetration and absorption of quality serums/ampoules to treat the skin.
A good facialist will allow time in preparing your skin for extraction to ease the impurities out of the pores instead of forcing them out which might hurt the skin. Sufficient time must also be allocated to calming any inflammation and irritation post extractions. Our facialists will apply soothing and protective professional care products to minimize post-facial breakouts and irrititation.
Post-facial breakouts are a common phenomenon. Facials are a detox for the skin and it rids skin of built-up sebum, dead skin cells and sunscreen and some people could have these lying in the skin for many years!
Firstly, some people may react to steam or certain products as well as facial massages or the drawing power of clay. Facials also do stir up bacteria and if it is not well-treated it can cause a post-facial breakout. However, skilled Facialists use anti-bacterial high-frequency wands and light therapy as well as products immediately after extraction to provide the proper treatment of bacteria and induce quicker healing.
Remember facials are an external way to detoxify and that means getting rid of toxins and impurities through the skin. You may first break out in pimples or rashes as toxins are released through the skin and this is normal. Thereafter, it leaves your skin clean, clear and luminous.
